I've been starving for new music. I refuse to go back to P2P for music, it's just too much hassle. So I search and search through AllOfMP3.com's database for stuff I can at least tollerate all in the hopes that I'll come across some stuff I can really enjoy.
My most recent additions... Lacuna Coil (the album is listenable and there's 1 song I really like), Gary Numan (haven't listened to the album yet), and Gothminister. I've passed this one up before because the name "Gothminister" just screams cheesy-pretentious. What I didn't figure in is that all the stuff I really like is at least a little pretentious. Pretention unaccompanied by talent is what I'm really afraid of, an example of this being "Vampstar". You shouldn't judge a band by their crappy name... most of the time... Judge them by their crappy music.
So it turns out I really like Gothminister, despite the fact that their name sounds like it was picked by "The Dark N00bs". The lyrics to the first song on the CD actually make the name seem well picked. As for the rest of the album, so far it all sound like my kind of stuff.
"Dark Salvation"
- Gothminister
Half as bright, twice as long
Message from times yet to come
Misty fields of no return
Only the wicked children burn
If you don’t behave yourself
You are going straight to hell
To a place where God is gone
You will meet the darkest one
(chorus)
Bloodred skies
Where demons fly
Disobey, and it comes alive
You are doomed until
We change your will
You must learn
The good ones live
The others burn
If you don’t behave yourself
We will have a soul to sell
There is still a way to learn
Only the wicked children burn
Here comes the dark salvation
Here comes the dark one with his cane
The cane it burns a little stitch
And then he fries
The little child
See? Gothy preaching! It's important to mock Christianity because if we didn't, what would be the point of Christianity existing?
On a side note, calling things Nihilistic seems to have a bad connotation in most uses of the word. I think this is wrong. If everyone just understood that life is meaningless and a waste of time it would make my job of destroying it all so much easier! I say Pro-Nihilism is the way to be!
The only thing I value in life is imagination. Reality devalues with its greasy touch. Obviously there are real things that I like, but all of them are ways of escaping reality. Books, TV and movies are important because they are the product of imagination. The computer is a tool of distraction like no other. I can experience almost anything on demand. Sort of.
And don't try to argue that if it is imagined, it is real. If that were true, I would have to at the very least restructure my arguement. Therefore it cannot be. These are not the droids you're looking for.
Partial logic is important.
Anyway, I liked the Gary Numan album I got as well ("Exile"), and now I'm listening to Dreamside. Overall I'm quite happy with my new music. Now if only it would satiate my need for more.
Until next time,
